Helen (Johnson) Dodd, 98, formerly of Bridgeport and Shelton, died Aug. 28, 2010, at Village Crest Center for Health & Rehabilitation in New Milford. She was the widow of Paul E. Dodd.

Mrs. Dodd was born Feb. 1, 1912, in Kent Hollow, daughter of the late Alden and Cora (Rodgers) Johnson.

She attended the one-room schoolhouse in Kent Hollow and graduated from New Milford High School in 1930.

In 1943, the family moved to the Bridgeport area, where her husband served as the Marine Corps recruiting staff sergeant.

For many years, she was head of the domestics department at Howlands Genung's Department stores in Bridgeport and Fairfield.

Mrs. Dodd is survived by a son, Harrison, and his wife, Marcia, of Shelton; two daughters, Mildred Olson, and her husband, Andrew, of South Kent, and Aileen Kimmerle, and her husband, Arthur, of Shelton; a stepson, Edward Dodd, and his wife, Louise, of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, Bonnie, and her husband, Paul Donzella, Mark, and his wife, Yohana Kimmerle, Brett Kimmerle, Wendy Olson and Heather (Alexei) Tibbles-Vassilev; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by three brothers, Fredrick, Harold and Edward; a niece, Carol; and two nephews, Alden and Carl.

There are no calling hours.

The Colonial Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
