Pop Warner cheerleaders claim state, regional laurels

It's a cheerleading season never to be forgotten for a group of New Milford girls active in the New Milford Bulls' Pop Warner program.

The Junior Midget cheerleaders will break new ground for the 40-year-old New Milford Bulls' program -- either football or cheerleading -- when they head next week to Orlando, Fl. to compete in the Pop Warner National Cheer & Dance competition.

The girls recently earned first place in age-group competition at Worcester, Mass. to qualify as New England champions for the event at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Walt Disney World. They are scheduled to do their routines Wednesday, Dec. 8.

The Junior Midget squad previously had captured the state championship Oct. 16 in New Haven and added sub-regional honors Nov. 6 in Springfield, Mass.

The team has been undertaking a fundraising project to help defray costs of the trip to Florida. Those wishing to donate can go to www.nmbulls.org or mail donations to P.O. Box 403, New Milford, CT.

The Junior Midgets aren't the only Bulls' girls with a strong resume this fall.

The Pee Wees cheerleaders also won their state championship and went on to take second place in regional qualifying and third place in New England regional competition.
