The New Milford Senior Center recently kicked off summer in style.

The center hosted a June 25 ladies-only summer hat breakfast.

The event, catered by the Community Culinary School of Northwestern Connecticut, based in New Milford, featured a gourmet breakfast of spinach and roasted red pepper frittatas, home fries, bacon, fresh fruit, pastries and beverages.

Ladies donned a variety of summer hats, many of them homemade.

Numerous prizes were distributed:

Pat Hammer took home a prize for Best in Show, for her hat decorated with real flowers.

Mary Miller for the most patriotic hat, Beverly Sales for biggest hat, Judith Villani for the most innovative hat, Fran Dempewolfe for the most creative hat, and Mary Ann Noll and Irene Bilms, who tied for the oldest/vintage hat.
