Harry Thies, 83, had worked at Stop & Shop
Harry J. Thies, 83, of Southington, husband of the late Joyce (Fox) Thies, died Aug. 12 at the VITAS unit at Saint Mary's Hospital.
Born on May 10, 1930, in Dunkirk, N.Y., he was the son of the late George and Mary (Lucas) Thies.
He served in the U.S. Army Security Service during the Korean conflict.
He was a retired employee of the Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., where he worked for more than 32 years as manager of several stores throughout Connecticut.
He had resided in Southington for the last six years and was a member of the First Congregational Church.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl Seeger, of Naugatuck; Linda, and her husband, Bob Crowley, of Wolcott; Brenda, and her husband, Bill Records, of Sherman; Brian, and his wife, Michelle, of Wolcott; a sister, Jean Bertelmann, of Maryland; 10 grandchildren, Matthew and Jason Crowley, Jessica DiTullio, Hannah and Tyler Records, Carla, Greg and Dayna Seeger, and Julia and Trevor Thies; two great-grandchildren, Aren and Camden Seeger; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Charles.
Funeral services will be Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 37 Main St., Southington. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Wolcott.
The DellaVecchia Funeral Home in Southington was in charge of arrangements.
