Hannibal, Hunt dash to Roxbury Mile victories

Hunt, an ex-standout at New Milford High School, clocked 4:48 for a course starting near the end of West Apple Lane and finishing near Booth Free School on South Street.

His performance edged Steve Palmer, 44, by two seconds.

Hannibal, a former athlete at Shepaug Valley High School, posted her eighth women's victory of 2007 with a 12th-place time of 5:54.

The series will resume tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:30 a.m. with a 2.4-mile race featuring the steep descent on Chalybes Road. Start near the end of Start anfd finish will be at Hurlburt Community Park on West Apple Lane.

There will be no entry fee for the Roxbury Recreation Commission event.

The First National Bank of Litchfield's annual Bill Burley MidSummer championship race will be held July 7 over a 5.0-mile course.

The summertime highlight of the Roxbury road race series is named for Dr. Bill Burley, the program's founding director and a former longime Roxbury resident.

Dr. Burley served as principal at John Pettibone School in New Milford.

Race entry will be $5 with proceeds benefiting the Roxbury park improvement fund.
