The Housatonic Valley Association, which serves the Greater New Milford area, has announced two new staff members -- Meghan Ruta and Salvatore "Sam" Dziekan.

HVA, founded in 1941, protects and restores the land and waters of the 2,000-square-mile Housatonic River watershed from its source in the Pittsfield, Mass., area to Long Island Sound.

Ms. Ruta of New Fairfield has been named Connecticut water protection manager. She will coordinate HVA's Stream Team program, organize cleanups, serve as the contact for river issues, work with schools and assist with local and state advocacy and policy development.

Mr. Dziekan of Bantam has been hired as manager of HVA's geographic information system.

He will focus on the Litchfield Hills Greenprint Project and assist communities and land trusts with their mapping needs.
