Gunn Memorial Library in Washington will kick off a series, "Glimpses of Japan through Fiction

and Film," July 5 at 6 p.m.

Tina Reardon, professor of Asian history and Asian-American studies at the University of Connecticut in Torrington, will lead the program that will feature the discussion of three books and the screening of an Academy Award-winning film.

Books to be discussed will include "The Samaurai's Garden," by Gail Tsukiyama, July 5; "Plum Wine," by Angela Davis-Gardener, July 12; and "Patriotism," by Mishima, July 19.

A discussion of the film "Departures" is planned for July 20 at 6 p.m.
