Handgun safety program sponsored by the National Rifle Association (NRA) will be held June 19 and 20 and July 17 and 25 at the shooters' pistol range in New Milford.

The one-day programs will offer knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for using or owning a handgun. A national written examination and live-fire range qualification will be conducted.

Program completion is a requirement for application for a state permit in Connecticut and most other states.

The National Rifle Association will also offer a "Personal Protection In The Home" course June 5 at the shooters' pistol range in New Milford. The advanced eight-hour course will focus on safe and efficient use of handguns for self-protection and family.

Included will be a presentation on criminal and liability law by attorney Thomas Allingham.Pre-registration is required.
