Steep Rock Association and the Roxbury Land Trust will co-sponsor a 4 ½-mile hike along Tunnel Road in Washington Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

An Oct. 1 rain date is planned.

Rory Larson, SRA’s land steward and program leader, and Jamie Curren, RLT’s land and property manager will lead the hike.

The program along the town road will start at SRA’s main Steep Rock Preserve parking lot next to the riding ring at 2 Tunnel Road.

Hiking south along the Shepaug River, participants will pass through the tunnel and under power lines that mark Steep Rock Preserve’s southern boundary.

Once entering Judd’s Bridge valley in Roxbury, hikers will ascend Battle Swamp Road to hook up with RLT’s Battle Swamp Brook Preserve.

Its cascading creek will lead the group to the preserve’s parking lot, at which point we will be shuttled back to Washington.

Participants should wear appropriate footwear for a moderate hike with one steep climb and have plenty of water on hand.

All ages are welcome.

Registration is required due to shuttle capacity.
