Postseason honors could await the New Milford High School boys soccer team.

That is, of course, if coach James Tong's Green Wave can revive the level of play it showed in such recent wins as a 2-0 home whitewashing of Joel Barlow on Oct. 17.

The New Milford booters followed up that emotional victory three days later with a 4-0 thrashing of host New Fairfield.

At that point, the Green Wave owned a 7-4-3 ledger and appeared poised to challenge for the South-West Conference playoffs,

or possibly even state Class LL tournament laurels.

Torrington pricked a hole in New Milford's balloon last Saturday, however, dealing the locals a 2-1 loss in Torrington.

Then Monday, Bunnell came to NMHS and outplayed coach Tong's crew, 4-2, to send the Green Wave into the postseason riding a pair of defeats.

The four goals tallied by Bunnell were most surrendered by New Milford this season.

The SWC playoffs are set to start today (Friday) or Saturday with quarterfinal matches.

The semifinals are slated for Tuesday at Pomperaug in Southbury, and the championship match is tentatively set for next Thursday in Newtown.

The Green Wave also will compete, possibly starting Nov. 5, in the

CIAC's state Class LL tournament.
