To the Editor:

The Roger Sherman Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s event Nov. 2 with The Yale Whiffenpoofs was a phenomenal evening.

More than 190 people attended the performance that helped raise $1494 for the First Congregational Church in New Milford’s “Raise The Roof” campaign.

There is a temporary interior steel structure in place to support the roof of the church.

As historic preservation is a cornerstone of the DAR, the Roger Sherman Chapter was very proud to provide this unique program to help raise funds for this historic New Milford landmark.

The chapter was able to tie in the role Roger Sherman played in our history. Not only was Roger Sherman the only patriot to sign the address to the King and the Articles of Association, the Declaration of Independence and the U. S. Constitution, he served as a Deacon of the First Congregational Church.

Roger Sherman was also the first mayor of New Haven and a graduate from Yale. He was instrumental in raising funds for the Yale Chapel.

This event is one of serval programs being offered to the community as the chapter celebrates its 125th anniversary.

On behalf of the Roger Sherman Chapter 125th anniversary committee, we sincerely thank you for attending this memorable event and helping to “Raise The Roof.” We could not have done it without you.
