Grant Retallick Sr., 75, enjoyed fishing, gardening
Grant E. Retallick Sr., 75, of New Fairfield, husband of 54 years to Shirley (Pokorny) Retallick, died March 13, 2012, at his home after a long and brave battle with cancer.
Mr. Retallick was born Nov. 2, 1936, in Danbury, son of the late William and Mabel (Burch) Retallick.
He worked for Seymour Powers Construction for 37 years and was a member of Local 478, Operating Engineers.
Mr. Retallick was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He loved going to the cabin in upstate New York and he enjoyed his extensive travels.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and showing them how to garden and fish and he loved his red tractor.
Mr. Retallick was an honorary member of the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, Company A.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Retallick is survived by his children, Darlene Halas, and her husband, Donald, Grant Retallick Jr., Stephen Retallick, and his wife, Elise, and Kathlene Jellen, and her husband, Mark; seven grandchildren, Donald D. Halas, Jillian Retallick, Stephen, Max and Sydney Retallick, and David and Hannah Jellen; two sisters, Mabel Spahr, of Colorado, and Patricia Hammer, and her husband, Ted, of New Milford; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William (Sonny) Retallick and Chester A. Retallick; a half-brother, William Cameron; and three sisters, Mildred Ceresna, Myrtle Loormann and Lillian Benjamin.
A funeral service will be held March 16 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 20 Gillotti Road, New Fairfield.
The Cornell Memorial Home in Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
