The Connecticut Community Foundation recently hosted a Give Local Greater Waterbury & Litchfield Hills community giving challenge.

The 36-hour challenge supported nonprofit organizations in the region.

The final countdown took place at CCF's 90th anniversary celebration Nov. 13 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Southbury.

The campaign raised nearly $520,000 for 125 participating nonprofit organizations that serve or are located in the foundation's 21-town service area, including New Milford, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Warren and Washington.

Donations were received from 29 states.

"It was heartwarming to see how passionate our community was in embracing Connecticut Community Foundation's first ever Give Local campaign," said CCF trustees Dan Caron and Antonio Pinto.

"We hope we inspired new donors to support these organizations that collectively make our region a stronger, more vibrant place for all," said Paula Van Ness, president and CEO of Connecticut Community Foundation.

On May 6 CCF will join community foundations across the U.S. in hosting Give Local America!, which will be another opportunity to raise awareness and funds for even more nonprofit organizations in our community.
