Genevieve Tripp, 81, was an active volunteer
Genevieve "Peenee" Tripp, 81, of New Preston, died July 4 in New Milford. She was the widow of William H. Tripp.
She was born Aug. 6, 1931, in New Milford, the daughter of the late George W. and Lillian (Ahlgren) Peterson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1949, and married in 1955, settling in Canaan.
She was employed as a personal secretary at United Aircraft for several years. She and her husband moved back to Washington in 1969. Her husband died in 1976.
For 12 years she worked as a volunteer in the resource library at Shepaug Valley High School.
She has been a member of the Washington Cemetery Association, the Washington Republican Town Committee and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a life member in the Connecticut State Police Academy Association, and a member of the Salem Covenant Church.
She was also an avid gardener who gave away most of her fruits and vegetables every summer.
She is survived by her stepson, William H. Tripp II, and his wife, Cindy; two stepgrandchildren, Lindsey Carley and William H. Tripp III; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, John, and his wife, Joan; two sisters, Ann Dahl and Dolly Whitney; a niece, Lori Dahl; and three nephews, Mark Dahl, Todd Peterson and Scott Peterson.
Services will be July 14 at 3 p.m. at Salem Covenant Church, 96 Baldwin Hill Road in Washington. Calling hours and burial will be private.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
