Gaylordsville is kicking off the holiday season this weekend with the annual Christmas in Gaylordsville festival.

The event is sponsored by the Gaylordsville Historical Society , Volunteer Fire Department , United Methodist Church and the Merwinsville Railroad Hotel and includes Christmas caroling, a tree lighting ceremony and the lighting off the Neapolitan Creche, among other events.

And, said Gaylordsville Historical Society President Richard Kosier , "We have a feeling Santa is going to show up this year for the kids - and adults."

According to Kosier, the festival began about four years ago. Over the past few years, the event has become a popular community event, often drawing people from throughout the region.

"It's just a way to bring people up to Gaylordsville to see what a cool little place it is," said Kosier. "People come from all over to see the Creche. It is definitely a family outing."
