Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio in New Milford will exhibit two new shows, “March Madness” and “Where is My Mind,” March 11.

Both shows will run through April 24.

“March Madness” will feature works by member-artists and “Where is My Mind” will showcase works by Kayla Ek of Oxford.

A reception for both shows will be held March 19 from 4 to 6 p.m., following a 2 p.m. art talk with Ek.

Ek will highlight her unique acrylic portraits portraying a peculiar imagination where emotive facial expressions and surrealism collide.

At 13, and under the teachings of Tracy Cox, Ek presented her first show.

She pursued an early career in graphic design by obtaining certification under the instruction of Todd Mclarty and Jennifer Trinx of Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury.

Ek has taken part in the Village Center for the Arts’ “Paint the People” and the New Milford Outdoor Arts Festival, and has won numerous awards for excellence, including the 2014 Connecticut Association of School’s Outstanding Arts Award.

She is continuing her education in studio arts at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

In 2015, Ek began a new wave of artistic freedom and comfort using her own imagination exploring lyrical illuminations of recent R&B music and visual interpretations of conversations with her peers.

The gallery is open Fridays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. and by appointment.
