Fundraising efforts are underway to support the Community Fuel Bank of New Milford.

A Cold Homes, Warm Hearts Walk, co-sponsored by New Milford Parks & Recreation Department and Social Services, will be held Jan. 8.

Funds raised from the in-town 5K walk will support the fuel bank fund.

For more information or to register an individual, team or other group, call Social Services at 860-3535-6079 or the senior center at 860-355-6075.

The goal is to raise $20,000, which will help 50 local households receive a minimum 100-gallon delivery.

Donations for the fund will also be accepted. Checks should be made payable to the Community Fuel Bank of New Milford and mailed to the fuel bank at 40 Main St.

Eight-hundred and fifty New Milford households received energy assistance last year; the need will be at least as great this winter.

As government energy assistance has been cut by more than $41 million this year for Connecticut, it is expected residents in need will exhaust these benefits well before the winter has ended.
