Help is available to pay for home heating for low- to moderate-income households through the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program.

All types of heating, including oil and propane, electric, wood and pellets, are covered under the program, according to the New Milford Social Services Department.

Income eligibility ranges up to a maximum of $32,190, before taxes, for one person and up to $61,904, before taxes, for a four-person household.

Most area towns have a local office that helps residents apply.

In New Milford, people under 60 should apply through the Social Services Department.
