A new wellness trend known as “forest bathing” will be offered July 24 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Steep Rock Preserve in Washington.

Jennifer Cranna, a yoga instructor and meditation teacher, will lead the workshop near the riding ring.

It is open to people 15 and older; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cranna will transform an ordinary hike into a healing practice that uses the sounds, smells and sights of nature, combined with yoga and meditation as a way to experience the healing qualities of forest immersion.

Viewed as a type of preventive medicine, Shinrin yoku, or "forest bathing" is a Japanese practice that began 40 years ago, and focuses on the healing qualities to be found in nature.
