Florence Elizabeth Froeder, 74, of New Fairfield, died May 18 at Danbury Hospital after an extended illness. She was the wife of Ernest R. Froeder.

Mrs. Froeder was born May 13, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Helen Karas, of Danbury, and the late Stephen Karas.

She attended Washington Irving High School in Manhattan and continued her education in New York City studying art with a concentration in watercolors.

A New Fairfield resident since 1968, Mrs. Froeder taught art in her home studio for many years.

She was a founding member of the former Candlewood League of Artists and participated in area art shows, including the art exhibition at Boehringer-Ingelheim and the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.

She had worked as administrative assistant at Danbury Hospital.

In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Froeder is survived by two brothers, Thomas Karas, and his wife, Wendy, of Bayside, Queens, N.Y., and Theodore Karas, and his wife, Marie, of Sherman; and two nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
