Flashback: Kenwood Lodge

Retail stores and businesses heavily line Route 7 in New Milford today, but that wasn’t always the case. The above photo of Landis & Alsop. illustrates the openness of the property known as Kenwood Lodge. The resort was located on what is now known as Chatsworth Village at 248 Danbury Road, across the street and just south of Italia Mia Restaurant. Kenwood Lodge offered luxurious sleeping accommodations, a Rotisserie Restaurant and recreation facilities, such as swimming, tennis and handball courts, and a baseball field. Samuel and Sarah (Lasky) Levenstein operated the lodge, which was about two miles from the town’s train station. This photograph is from a postcard dated 1948.
