The Kent Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Firemen's Fair Aug. 11-13 at the fairgrounds on Route 7.

The fair will be open Aug. 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Aug.12-13 from 6 to 11 p.m.

Major highlights will include a parade Aug. 12 at 6:45 p.m. and a fireworks display Aug. 13 at 9:15 p.m.

Other festivities will include carnival rides, children's games, the sale of white elephant items, live music, a cake booth and bingo.

In addition, other special features will include a frog jumping contest Aug. 11 at 7 p.m., a dog show Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. and lumberjack demonstrations with Shannon Strong and her lumberjack team will be held each night at 7 p.m.

Three dog show divisions will be available for small and large dogs: grooming, obedience and agility.

A freestyle section will also be available.

The cost is $5 per dog.

In honor of its 100th anniversary, the KVFD will sell a variety of memorabilia.

People interested in baking a cake for the cake booth, has questions or needs a cake to be picked up is asked to call JoAnn Gleason Whitmore at 860-927-4378.

Baked goods may be delivered to the cake booth anytime during the fair.

Patrons over age 12 who attend the fair Aug. 11 will pay $5, but will have free admission Aug. 12-13. Patrons over age 12 who attend Aug. 12 will pay $4, but will have free admission Aug. 13. Patrons over age 12 will pay $3 Aug. 13.

On Aug. 11 and Aug. 13, a special fare will be offered for amusement rides. Bracelets for rides will be sold for $20 at the ticket booth.
