The New Milford Fire Marshal's Office and local fire departments will participate in the annual Fire Prevention Day Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Activities will be held at Home Depot on Route 7.

This year's theme is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives."

Offerings will include visits with fire trucks, a kids' safety trailer, New Milford Community Ambulance, New Milford Police Department, a Connecticut State Police fire investigation van and accelerant detection canine, the Connecticut DEEP emergency response unit, the Candlewood Lake Authority and representatives from each, as well as a kids build a fire truck activity, face painting, a 98Q live broadcast, food, games and more.

The schedule will include a LifeStar landing at 10 a.m., the state police canine demonstration at 10:45 a.m., a live mock living room burn at 11 a.m., a vehicle extrication scenario at 11:30 a.m. and a DEEP hazardous material demonstration at noon.

Kids safety trailer visits will be ongoing.
