"Where's Waldo?" In New Milford, of course. The famous children's book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs will visit several businesses in downtown New Milford next month. Candlewick Press is once again teaming with the American Booksellers Association and 250 independent bookstores across the country, including the Bank Street Book Nook in New Milford, for some fun and to encourage residents to patronize their local businesses during July. Waldo and his faithful dog, Woof, will be well hidden in several businesses, including Bank Street Book Nook, Play, Daffodil 6, the Barkery Boo'tique, Swank on Bank, the Golden Needle, Bank Street Theater, Natural Market Place, Paul Morton Jewelers, and Sugar Hoot on Bank Street; Action Computer Services, Monica's Corner, All Aboard, the Sweet Spot, The Green Granery and Taylor & Son on Railroad Street; the Village Center for the Arts, Tasty Waves, Nordica and the Nutmeg Olive Oil Company on Main Street; Gallery 25 on Church Street; Bike Express on Bridge Street; Lennie's Flowers on Elm Street; and Lore's Lanes on Route 7. Residents who spot Waldo can win prizes, including buttons, coupons and more. Those wishing to participate can pick up a "Find Waldo Local in New Milford" passport with the names of all the participating sites, and get their passport stamped or signed for each Waldo they find. The first 100 Waldo seekers to get their passports stamped or signed at 10 or more sites can bring their passports back to the Bank Street Book Nook to collect prizes. Collecting store stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses would entitle seekers to enter in an Aug. 1 grand prize drawing. The top prize will be a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books.
