To the Editor:

The Washington Democratic Town Committee has endorsed three, well-qualified candidates for contested positions in this year's town election.

I believe having an active, two-party system is the best means of achieving a responsive, local government that can meet the needs of all its citizens.

Ralph Averill for zoning board has longstanding roots in town, has served on the board in the past and is committed to protecting our town with responsible development.

Mike Sivick for zoning board alternate and his wife, Leah Chapin Sivick, have two elementary-school children. Mike offers a much-needed, youthful voice to the zoning discussion.

Jay Hubelbank for Board of Selectmen will bring to the board a balance that has been missing for the last two years. He and his wife, Laurie, have lived in Washington for 38 years and have raised two children, Jenna and Emily, both of whom were educated in Region 12 schools.

What makes Jay such a desirable choice for selectman is his work background. He served for many years as the business manager for several school districts.

His commitment is reflected by his 16 years' service, two as chairman, on the Region 12 Board of Education.

He would bring this vast knowledge, background and experience dealing in the public sector to the position of selectman.

A vote for these candidates would allow all citizens of Washington to have their views represented. Please join me in voting for these candidates in the town election and bring balance to the elected officials.
