Father, son seriously hurt in ATV crash

A 4-year-old boy and his father suffered serious injuries after their all-terrain vehicle overturned Tuesday outside their New Milford home, authorities said.

Matthew Bigbie, 37, was driving the ATV with his son on the passenger’s seat when he crashed on his Unicorn Drive property, according to the report.

The two victims were taken to Danbury Hospital immediately after the 5 p.m. crash, but the child was later taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Police said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Unicorn Drive is a dead-end street off of Route 7 and across from Tractor Supply.

Man charged in Kent sexual assault

An 18-year-old man is being held on $100,000 bond after police charged Monday him with sexually assaulting a minor.

Samuel Elder, of Gainesville, Fla., was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, both felony offenses.

Police said the incident took place Feb. 19 in Kent, but they would not provide details.

Court records show the incident took place at Marvelwood School and that the victim was a 14-year-old girl, according to the Republican-American.

Elder was arraigned Monday in state Superior Court in Bantam, where he’s scheduled to return June 1.
