Family Fun Day to aid scholarship fund

The Washington Scholarship Fund will host a Family Fun Day Oct. 13 from noon to 2 p.m.

The rain-or-shine event will take place at the Riverwalk Pavilion at Washington Primary School on School Street.

Offerings will include a picnic featuring tacos and quesadillas from El Camion, also known as "The Taco Truck," a bake sale, a lemonade stand and family-friendly field day games.

Families of past scholarship recipients will donate the baked goods.

The event is underwritten by the fund's board of directors. All donations will benefit the fund.

Since its founding in 1964, more than $2 million in scholarships have been awarded to qualified local high school seniors and past graduates.

In 2012 alone, the fund awarded $179,000 to 18 graduating seniors and 39 former graduates.

Each scholarship recipient -- all of whom are residents of Washington, Washington Depot, Marble Dale or New Preston for at least two years prior to their graduation -- is guaranteed continuing financial support throughout his or her college, technical or trade school education.
