Fairfield University resumes COVID-19 reporting

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield University reported a dozen active COVID-19 cases on Monday as the university’s dashboard began reporting spring semester cases.

Most major colleges and universities around the state have been reporting cases around the state for several weeks as students returned to campuses and class.

A majority of the cases were among students who tested positive as part of repopulation testing and have not yet been cleared. Two active cases were reported on campus.

As of Monday, Fairfield University reported three new cases through surveillance testing.

Other colleges and universities around the state have reported infections.

Last week, Quinnipiac University in Hamden announced it was lifting a quarantine on two residence halls, The Commons and Hill 10s. Students living there had been put on remote learning after two small clusters of cases were identified at each. On Feb. 11, the school announced the order would be lifted, because further community spread did not occur.

On Tuesday, Quinnipiac reported six new cases, evenly split between on-campus and off-campus students.

Western Connecticut State University in Danbury reported 17 new cases last week. Eight students there are in isolation on campus.

Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven reported 27 new cases last week, mostly among commuter students. Eight students are isolating on campus there.

The University of Bridgeport reported 10 new cases last week, bringing the total cumulative number this semester to 42.

The University of Hartford in West Hartford reported 16 new cases last week, with 18 active cases.

The University of New Haven in West Haven reported nine new cases in the past seven days as of Tuesday, with 17 active cases— all involving students.

The University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford reported two new cases last week.

Wesleyan University in Middletown reported seven new cases last week with seven active cases — mostly among students.

Sacred Heart University in Fairfield reported seven new cases Monday, bringing the total active cases to 73. Off campus cases now slighly outnumber cases among residential students.

Central Connecticut State University in New Britain reported one new case Monday.

Connecticut College in New London reported one new case so far this week, a student. Four active cases are reported there.

Yale University in New Haven reported 23 new cases in the last seven days as of Sunday. Since Jan. 1, 212 cases have been reported there.

Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic reported two new cases last week— one and off-campus student, the other an on-campus student.

The University of Connecticut in Storrs reported one new on-campus case and one new off-campus case Tuesday.
