Extends thanks to all who helped with monument

To The Editor:

Jim Delancy, commander of the New Milford VFW, and I would like to thank the New Milford community for attending the dedication ceremony for Peter Joseph “The Flag Man” Orenski.

We also want to thank Mayor David Gronbach for his support for this project.

Special thanks to the following people: Mike Zarba, director of Public Works, Michael Boucher, Highway Department foreman, Bob Mordente and his staff at Speedi Sign who made the bronze plaque, Susan Nelson from Bates New Milford Monument Co. who had the stone made up from my design.

A job well done to Tom Assheton and Jeff Fleet of the New Milford Highway Department who mounted the bronze plaque on the stone and set it in place at town hall.

When you look at the “Flag Man” monument, located in front of the flag pole at town hall, it looks like it’s just setting on the grass, but it’s mounted on top of a five-inch base of sand and concrete.

I would also like to thank the following people for their interest in this project, State Representative Bill Buckbee, Pete Bass, Chief Shawn Boyne, New Milford Police Department, Jeff McBrearity, commander of the American Legion, Kathy and Bill Shemeley of the POW-MIA Connecticut Forget-Me-Nots, Dan Calhoun, director of Parks and Recreation, Denise Del Mastro, executive director of the Greater New Milford Chamber of Commerce, Dan Sullivan, Patrick Magurie and many others.
