Extends thanks for ‘tremendous support’ of races
To The Editor:
On behalf of the New Milford Parks and Recreation Department, we would like to thank all of those involved with the 50th annual 8-Mile and 15th annual 5K road races.
These events were held July 29, with over 540 registered runners.
The tremendous support from our wonderful community, along with the hardworking staff at Parks and Recreation, is the reason we are able to continue to offer elite and recreational runners the opportunity to compete against their peers on New Milford’s beautiful country roads.
We would like to “warm up” by thanking the hundreds of runners, many of whom have faithfully returned each year, for making the races this year so successful.
We certainly admire your determination to conquer these challenging courses and are inspired by your successes. Your talent and love of running is what motivates us to continually strive to make this a safe and wonderful event for you to enjoy.
We would like to thank the entire staff at the Parks and Recreation Department, the parks maintenance staff, the Public Works Department, New Milford Police Department, the New Milford Community Emergency Response Team and New Milford Ambulance for providing a well-organized and safe event.
Of course, the race would not be possible without the support of our many sponsors. We would like to thank our premier sponsors, Union Savings Bank, Western Connecticut Health Network, Circle Asphalt Paving Co., Dawn Hough (real estate agent with Coldwell Banker) and M & O Construction.
Many thanks also to our other financial sponsors, which include Bank Street Theatre, Candlewood Valley Motors, Dental Associates of Connecticut, Dr. Allan Phillips, MedInstill and Candlewood Valley Pediatrics.
We would also like to thank the following businesses for their valuable contributions: Northville Market, Kimberly-Clark, the Children’s Movement Center, Stew Leonard’s, H&H Taylor & Sons True Value Hardware, GU Energy, Stop & Shop, Big Y, Costco, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Wal-Mart, Triple Springs Water, National Peanut Board, R.T. Layton Co. and Dagwood’s New American Restaurant.
As always, the prerace and race publicity provided by the Greater New Milford Spectrum provided tremendous coverage.
Thanks to the volunteers from the Living Stones Faith Church and to our many, many volunteers who have given generously of their time and effort at registration, the finish line, refreshments, water stops, timing, split times, entertainment and traffic and safety, our heartfelt thanks.
We would like to thank all the fans who cheered for all the runners and those people along the route who provided hoses, water, music and encouragement.
As we approach the “finish line,” we want to once again express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who made race day so successful.
And finally, to the runners, who were so inspirational and made our races so exciting and worthwhile, many thanks. See you all on July 28, 2018, for our 51st anniversary.
