The Roxbury Council on Aging will present a performance, "Lou Gehrig: Story of A Great Man," July 20 at 3 p.m. at town hall on Route 67.

The story was written and will be told be award-winning storyteller Carol Birch, who traces Gehrig's life from his childhood, through his baseball career, to his marriage, and his final battle with ALS.

July 4 will mark the 75th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's speech in Yankee Stadium, a speech which reverberates in the American psyche to this day.

Birch discusses how the immigrant son became a baseball hero and American icon.

On the 100th anniversary of Gehrig's birth, she told this story at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for youth, with proceeds to benefit the need bus for the On the Road Again program for Roxbury seniors.
