Elizabeth 'Libby' Porter, 93, was active in community

Elizabeth `Libby' Porter, 93, of Southbury, formerly of New Milford, died Jan. 9, 2012 in New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Leighton Porter.
Mrs. Porter was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Port Jervis, N.Y., a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (McArthur) Knowles.
Mrs. Porter was employed for many years as an agent with Housatonic Valley Insurance.
She was active in her community, serving on the Board of Directors of New Milford Hospital, as a trustee of Russell Sage College, as a member of the Connecticut State Insurance Women's Association and as a volunteer with the New Milford VNA for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Porter was a member of the First Congregational Church in New Milford.
Mrs. Porter is survived by two sons, Robert Porter of Kuwait, and Richard Porter and his wife, Debbie, of Prospect; and three grandchildren, Ashley Porter, Andrew Porter and Kevin Porter.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in New Milford.
Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery in Danbury.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road in New Milford.
