Eileen Newman, 85, died Aug. 2 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford.

She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in New Dorp, Staten Island, N.Y., the daughter of the late Marion (Coghlin) and Francis Dolen.

She graduated from New Dorp High School ahead of her class and spent time working at the Army Exchange during World War II.

She also worked as a much-photographed model for several retail establishments in New York and as an editor for the late Jay Kennedy.

In addition, she worked for many years at Mr. Kennedy's organization in California, the Center for Human Problems.

During her spare time, Mrs. Newman was an avid reader and music enthusiast. For a number of years, she took voice lessons with Andy Anselmo and the late John Harris of the Singers Forum in New York City.

After her retirement, she worked with the Singers Forum founder, Mr. Anselmo, on his autobiography and with Ed Larocque of California on several plays, as well as a book about Mr. Kennedy.

Mrs. Newman is survived by a sister, Joyce Scanlon; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dolen; three nieces, Rosalind Lassoff, Eileen Haupt and Linda Dolen; six nephews, Michael, James, Thomas, Francis, Joseph and Timothy Dolen; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and close friends, Margaret Meriwether, Carol Wilcock, Ed Larocque and Ilene Adler. She was predeceased by a brother, Francis Dolen, and a niece, Nora Scanlon.

Burial will be private at the family's discretion.

The Hull Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
