Eclectic items are the norm at Design Garage Boutique
The clock is among the latest items to be marketed at the new store Mr. Carbone and his wife, Jennifer, have opened at the corner of Route 7 South and Dodd Road in New Milford.
The couple agrees it will be an intriguing addition to the other eclectic clocks he has mounted high on a wall, amidst a room full of designer brand women's clothes, jeans, knit wear, jewelry and purses, including Coach bags.
Mr. Carbone then walks into a side room, past a bright red cafe table with bottle-cap chairs, to show off yet another room filled with one-of-a-kind reproduction lamps, bar stools, office chairs and couches from vendors as far away as Germany.
The Bethel couple opened the shop in September and are clearly proud of the selections they have to offer.
The Carbones quickly built a steady clientele.
They feel best part of their business is that these fashions and furnishings bear outlet prices meant to fit the budgets of everyone, from well-heeled collectors to teenagers.
Most of what they sell -- such as Scrabble-piece necklaces, Not Your Daughter's brand jeans and hand-knitted scarves, hats and mittens by a local artisan with proceeds benefiting Relay for Life -- are not likely to be found anywhere nearby.
A Coach clutch that normally sells for about $300 is priced here for almost $100 less; a costume silver pearl necklace and matching earrings sell for $29. There are wallets for $10 and coats for $159.
A sleek black leather couch with Memory Foam fabric that looks as though it belongs in a Manhattan penthouse sells for just under $800.
Four years ago, David Carbone sold his furniture business in the SoHo district of New York City; two years ago the couple, with sons Kyle, 9, and Ryan, 5 months, bought and renovated a 110-year-old tobacco barn for their shop.
In the recent past the site was a children's consignment shop and a used bookstore.
The Carbones are excited with the prospects.
So is customer Marcela Rosato, who stopped in recently to shop for a winter coat.
"I like what they have... we need something different here in New Milford," said Ms. Rosato. "The prices are wonderful."
