WASHINGTON, Conn. — The Washington Environmental Council and the Steep Rock Association will co-sponsor an Earth Day 5K race April 22.

The race will be held at the Steep Rock Nature Preserve at 2 Tunnel Road in Washington.

The mostly flat course runs along the scenic Shepaug River. The cost is $20.

Same-day registration and race bib pick-up will begin at 7:45 a.m. The race will start at 9 a.m.

The event is eco-friendly, so participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle.

Homemade cookies and other refreshments will be provided after the race.

Pre-registration is available on www.active.com. The first 40 registrants will receive a free WEC beanie.

Runners and walkers are all welcome.

Additionally, participants and spectators are encouraged (but not required) to join WEC in their annual roadside cleanup after the race.

Trash bags will be provided onsite, and a dumpster will be available at Bryan Memorial Town Hall.

The roadside cleanup will end at noon.
