Early-morning downtown stabbing leads to arrest of New Milford man
A 29-year-old New Milford man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly stabbing an acquaintance on Bank Street in New Milford.
George Bates, of Railroad Street, was charged with breach of peace, engaging in a fight capable of causing mortal injury, and possession of marijuana, according to New Milford police.
Mr. Bates was released on $25,000 bond after arraignment in Bantam Court that morning at 10 a.m.
His case was continued to June 8 and transferred to Litchfield Superior Court.
New Milford police said they responded to a call at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday that a fight was in progress on Bank Street.
According to police, when they arrived on the scene, Mr. Bates was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man with whom he had made acquaintance earlier in the evening.
Police said Mr. Bates was also in possession of a substance later identified as marijuana.
The victim was taken by ambulance to New Milford Hospital, where he reportedly was treated and released.
