Duane M. Caldwell, 48, of Bantam, died unexpectedly April 16, 2013, in Torrington.

He was born May 2, 1964, in New Milford, son of the late James and Carol (Boyd) Caldwell. He graduated from Henry Abbott Tech in 1982 and moved from New Milford to Bantam four years ago.

He was a welder and owned Duane Caldwell Welding, and was currently the owner of Cozy Hills Camp Ground in Bantam.

He was a member of the Water Witch Hose Co. #2 in New Milford and the Connecticut Campground Owners Association and was involved in the Pumpkin Chuckin' contest known as "Lord of the Gourds."

He is survived by a son, Nicolai Caldwell, of Bantam; a brother, Daniel Caldwell, of New Milford; a sister, Kim Caldwell Lang, and her husband, David of New Milford; two nieces, Rebecca Bloom, and her husband, Matthew, and Katherine Caldwell; a nephew, James Caldwell; a grandniece, Madison Bloom; and his "Cozy Hills family."

He will be remembered for choosing to help others through tissue donation.

Calling hours will be held April 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford. A funeral service will be held April 20 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Center Cemetery in New Milford.
