Drug take-back day on tap
A free community drug take-back day will take place April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon in New Milford.
The event, co-sponsored by New Milford Hospital, in partnership with the New Milford/CTRIAD, the New Milford Police Department and the New Milford Substance Abuse Prevention Council, will offer a safe, eco-friendly means to dispose of outdated prescriptions and old over-the-counter medications.
It will take place at the hospital at 21 Elm St.
Residents are invited to bring unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications in the original containers, including pills, capsules, tablets, topical creams, cough and cold products, aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, metered dose inhalers, thyroid hormones and naproxen.
The take-back is not able to accommodate syringes.
To prevent the misuse of an unused prescription for pain killers, many flush them down the toilet, affecting the local water supply.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free service for safe disposal and one that also best protects our environment.
