Police Officer Donald Joseph Hassiak II, 41, of New Milford, died June 3, 2010, from injuries sustained in an accident while biking to work at the Danbury Police Department. He was the husband of Kimberly (Duff) Hassiak for 13 years.
Born May 25, 1969, in Danbury, Mr. Hassiak was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Hassiak joined the Danbury Police Department on Aug. 29, 1994, and enjoyed police work.
Mr. Hassiak was active in the New Milford community in Cub Scouts, the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation and as a Northwestern hockey dad and a youth baseball coach.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hassiak is survived by three sons, Matthew, 8, Luke, 6, and DJ, 4; his parents, Donald and Marilyn Hassiak, of New Milford; a brother and a sister-in-law, Peter and Terri Hassiak, of Mahopac, N.Y.; his maternal grandmother, Martha Delay, of Newtown; his mother-in-law, Virginia L. Duff, and her longtime companion, Nick Minucci, of New Milford; a sister-in law, Renee Duff, of Bronxville, N.Y.; a sister and brother-in-law, Nicole and Joe DeSantis, of New Milford; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Trisha Duff, of Kingston, Mass.; several nephews, nieces; and his brothers and sisters of the Danbury Police Department and the law enforcement community. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, John M. Duff.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
