To the Editor:

Thanks to great weather, terrific coverage by the press and social media and the hard work of all the merchants and volunteers, the 2014 Kent Sidewalk Festival was a great success.

Visitors had fun participating in myriad activities and enjoyed the great food available both on the street and in the fine restaurants.

The cash raffle was very popular with Kent resident Kasey Leo Straiton winning the $500 prize. Kasey works at David Gavin Salon.

The other winners were Michelle Wenis, of Woodbury, winning $1,000 and Carla Owens, of Naugatuck, winning $250.

We could not have asked for better weather -- more people than ever visiting Kent. And the stunt-bike rider was amazing.

The Kent Car Cruise Night also brought in record numbers with about 103 participants.

According to Dick Lindsey, co-chairman of the cruise night, "There was good food and great music. We received many compliments from car owners and spectators."

The addition of a mechanical bull provided lots of fun for all, according to Anne McAndrew, of Annie Bananie Ice Cream, who brought in the bull.

She said the bull brought in "many riders and just as many laughs."

"Some were riding one-handed, some hanging on for dear life. I think the mechanical bull provided entertainment for all ages," McAndrew said.

Mark your calendars now for the 2015 Sidewalk Festival, Aug. 6-9.
