Deniz Batas Appleby, 41, of New Milford, died unexpectedly June 23. He was the husband of Michele (Chelednik) Appleby, and father to Deniz and Dylan Appleby,

Mr. Appleby was born Feb. 5, 1971, in New Jersey, son of Gigi and Louie Vlamis of Brookfield.

He grew up in Brookfield and graduated from Brookfield High School in 1989. He later attended the Florida Institute of Technology, where he earned his pilot's license.

Mr. Appleby spent more than 25 years in the automotive industry, where he developed a passion for classic and exotic car repair and restoration. He eventually turned that passion into a business and opened his own specialty shop earlier this year.

He spent the past 15 years married to the love of his life, Michele. Together, they raised two amazing sons and have maintained an admirably close relationship with family and lifelong friends.

A family man, Mr. Appleby enjoyed spending time with his two boys swimming and barbecuing.

In addition to his wife and two sons, he is survived by a brother, Robert E. Appleby, and sister-in-law, Rebecca Appleby, and their children, James and Charles, of Brookfield; a sister, Diana M. Appleby, of Brookfield; a brother-in-law, Tom Chelednik, and his wife, Tammi, and their children, Skylar and Trevor, of Brookfield; and a close group of childhood friends whom he considered family.

The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
