The food and nutrition services department of New Milford public schools has issued a reminder to parents/guardians of students about free and reduced price meals.

According to state guidelines, a student receiving free or reduced price meals during the 2010-11 school year will automatically receive them until Oct. 14 of the 2011-12 school year.

A new application is required in order for a student's eligibility to continue during each new school year.

If a new application has not been filed by Oct. 14, a student would lose his or her eligibility to automatically receive free or reduced price meals.

Parents may still submit an application at any time during the school year.

Households receiving SNAP are automatically eligible for free meal benefits.

Applications may be obtained at any of the schools, the food and nutrition service office, located at 22 Hipp Road or by calling 860-354-3712.

Applications may also be downloaded from the newmilfordps.org site under the food and nutrition services tab.
