Cynthia Young, 86, was active in Roxbury politics
She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Southport. She graduated from St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, Va., and Sweet Briar College , Va. After college she worked as a reservation agent for American Airlines at LaGuardia Airport in New York until her marriage in 1941.
Mrs. Young and her family lived in Alton, Ill., Houston, Texas, New Haven and Stamford, until they moved to Roxbury in 1954. After 37 years in Roxbury, the couple moved to Southport, N.C., in 1991. In Roxbury, she was active in politics, was a volunteer for the PTA and served on the altar guild at
Mrs. Young is survived by two sons, William of Simpsonville, S.C., and Douglas and his wife Pam of Boulder, Colo.; four daughters, Ann LaFiandra and her husband Bob of Middlebury, Vt., Elizabeth Poland of Houston, Texas, Mary of Arlington, Mass., and Lucy of Falmouth, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Jeremy and Jill Poland, Matthew, Andrew and Alessandra LaFiandra , and Davis, Alex and Ellen; a sister, Nancy Spreen of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Nelson Noland of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Mary of Chicago.
A remembrance of Mr. and Mrs. Young will be held in Roxbury at a later date, followed by interment at Fork Church in Ashland, Va., in July.
