Consolidated elementary school heads to Region 12 voters
The Region 12 Board of Education plans to go ahead with a vote on a consolidated elementary school for students in Roxbury, Bridgewater and Washington.
The board voted late Monday in a 6-5 vote with one abstention to send a single question on a consolidated school to voters on June 19.
A move to give voters a choice in June of the region retaining, expanding and renovating three existing elementary schools -one in each town - or building a consolidated school was defeated.
The board also voted, on the advice of its legal counsel, against entering into an inter-municipal agreement with the three towns. That agreement, which the town of Washington had withdrawn from, would have paved the way for each town to expand and renovate its own elementary school and lease it to the region.
