College Notes: Reed, Millard, Bohling, Poluson excel for Middlebury football
David Reed (New Canaan) caught seven passes for 101 yards, James Millard (Brunswick) had four receptions for 42 yards, Ryan Bohling (Staples) had one reception and also ran the ball twice for four yards and John Poluson (St. Luke's) started at guard as Middlebury outscored Tufts in its season-opener. Kyle Duncan (New Canaan) was a starter at guard for Bowdoin.
Andrew Reed (Brunswick) had an 80-yard touchdown reception as Amherst opened the season with a win over Hamilton. Nick Edwards (Greenwich) had one solo and one assisted tackle while Will Reed (Brunswick) had one reception for 15 yards and Wyatt Moss (Staples) opened at left tackle for Amherst. Ted Finan (New Canaan) had four solo tackles for Hamilton while Will Finan (New Canaan) also started in the secondary for Hamilton.
Cyprian Oyomba (Norwalk) had one solo and four assisted tackles and Zach Sadler (Trumbull) started at right tackle as Wesleyan beat Tufts to open its season. Dan Stebbins (Wilton) had two solo and two assisted tackles and Oliver Gray (King) had one reception for 17 yards in a losing effort.
Dontay Wilson (Stamford) has collected 464 yards on the ground and is averaging 5.5 per carry with the Kutztown State football team (2-3).
Freshman linebacker Roy Burke (Westhill) had one solo and one assisted tackle as Nichols (2-2) defeated MIT.
Jeff Wagner (Norwalk) set a school record with a time of 26:58 as Western New England competed in the UMass Dartmouth Shriners cross country meet,
Andrew Erskine (Westhill) had a time of 27:01 as Amherst finished fourth in competition against four Division I schools.
Mathias Hunkelar (New Canaan) has started all seven games at midfield with the Hamilton soccer team.
Courtney Callahan (Fairfield Warde) had the game-winning goal as the Holy Cross field hockey team (2-7) edged Fairfield, 1-0. She has eight goals and one assist this season.
Laura Dembofsky (Stamford) had the only goal for Southern Connecticut (2-9) in a 2-1 field hockey loss to AIC.
Alison Mehan (Stamford/Phillips Exeter) has one goal and one assist with the Wellesley field hockey team (5-3).
Stamford's Kemesha Woodfine (Stamford/Baylor School) had her first collegiate goal and Furtura Velaj (Westhill) also scored but the Quinnipiac women's soccer team lost to Central Connecticut.
Sophomore defender Catherine Kapustynski (Darien) has appeared in all 10 games with the 21st-ranked Skidmore women's soccer team (7-2-1).
Lauren Landri (Greenwich) has 91 kills and 36 blocks with the Western New England volleyball team.
