Bridgewater Congregational Church hires pastor

The Bridgewater Congregational Church has hired a full-time pastor, Abby Gackenheimer. The Congregation voted to approve Gackenheimer after a two year search by the transition committee.

“I am passionate about the vitality and vibrancy of a small local church. I believe that a faith community of a few can be just as powerful as a faith community of 200,” said Rev. Gackenheimer. She currently resides at Silver Lake Conference and Retreat Center with her husband, Rev. Ryan Gackenheimer, who is the executive director of SLCC, and son, Keadyn, who is in first grade, plus their two dogs, three guinea pigs and tortoise.

Gackenheimer will take the helm on Nov. 15, replacing the Rev. Daniel England who has served as the interim pastor for the past two years.

“The church has grown and prospered the last two years under the loving guidance of Daniel.” said Alan Smith, head deacon. “We shall forever be grateful.”

Gackenheimer has served as the interim/transitional minister for the Congregational Church of Plainville and the First Congregational Church of Kent, as well as pulpit supply in Salisbury, Cornwall and Goshen.

The Bridgewater Congregational Church was founded in 1803. It is a member of the United Church of Christ and is located at 10 Clapboard Rd in Bridgewater.
