The Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department will host its third annual chili and chowder cookoff May 5.

Competitors in two categories will gather that morning to prepare their recipes.

The public is invited to sample the chili and chowders starting at noon at the firehouse at 700 Kent Road (Route 7 North).

The event will conclude at 3 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony.

Admission consists of samples of the chili and chowders, a bottle of water and a ballot to vote for the best chili, the best chowder and best table presentation.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the construction of a new kitchen at the firehouse.
