Charney to discuss 'The Art of Forgery'
What fascinates people about art forgery?
Art forgery involves incredible talent, treachery and detection, forensic science and a measure of mysticism.
Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio will offer a presentation and book signing with Noah Charney. author of "The Art of Forgery," June 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the 25 Church St. gallery.
In his new release, Charney reveals the motivations and psychological profiles of the artists and criminals who have faked great works of art, and in doing so, conned the public and art establishment alike.
Using 30 case studies, Charney examines the adventures and misadventures of master forgers from antiquity to today and the criminal minds that are driven to forgery, each with a mixture of genius, pride, revenge, fame, crime, opportunism, money and power.
The book features images of fakes and original works of art, and delves into forgeries in the worlds of archaeology, literature and wine.
The book, which costs $35, will be available for a special price after the presentation, with a portion of each sale to benefit Gallery 25.
