The Animal Welfare Society Inc. hosted its second annual fundraiser breakfast Oct. 23 at Candlewood Valley Country Club in New Milford. The event, which was held in conjunction with Animal Welfare's 50th anniversary, attracted a sellout crowd of nearly 140 people and raised more than $22,000 for the organization, which serves Bridgewater, Brookfield, New Milford, Roxbury and Washington. The Animal Welfare Society was founded in 1965, and has cared for and placed thousands of dogs and cats in loving homes over the decades. AWS has been located at its shelter at 8 Dodd Road in New Milford since 1991, with Manager Renee Gardner heading up the operation for nearly a quarter of a century. Art Cummings and Tom Mulvihill were co-chairmen of the breakfast, and Pam Southworth was the featured speaker.
