Cavallaro to talk about Mallory Murders

Author and historian Michael-John Cavallaro of New Milford will present a free lecture, "The Mallory Murders: The First Mass Murder in America," March 8 at 7 p.m.

The program will be held at the New Milford Historical Society, 6 Aspetuck Ave.

The Mallory Murders was reportedly the first mass murder in America, having taken place on Feb. 2, 1780, in Washington.

The murderer, 19-year-old Barnett Davenport, was from New Milford.

Mr. Cavallaro will offer his account of Mr. Davenport's life and his fall into mental illness and social dysfunction.

Mr. Cavallaro spent three years researching the murders, and will relate the story and explain how his research came to fruition in a story that took him deep into history and military research.

His second book, "Tales of Old New Milford: Slavery, Crime and Punishment on the Connecticut Frontier," will be available to purchase at the lecture.
